Bill Nye, a mechanical engineer and comedian who became known as “The Science Guy” after hosting a children’s TV program for years in the 1990s, is now ludicrously held up by the progressive left as some sort of all-knowing arbiter of scientific fact who must never be questioned, no matter how ridiculous some of the things he says may sound.
Case in point on his absurdity was a segment of the season finale of Nye’s self-important and presumptuously titled Netflix program “Bill Nye Saves The Earth,” when Nye seemingly suggested that America engage in a form of eugenics and population control in order to protect the environment, according to the Washington Free Beacon.
Guest panelist Dr. Travis Rieder, a bioethics and philosophy lecturer at Johns Hopkins University who has traveled to various college campuses to preach the notion that overpopulation is contributing to climate change, remarked on the disparity in carbon pollution output produced by children in developing countries as opposed to highly developed nations like our own.
“The average Nigerian emits 0.1 metric tons of carbon annually,” noted Rieder. “How many does the average American emit? Sixteen metric tons.”
Rieder then noted that Nigerians have an average of seven children per family versus the average of two children per American family, but maintained that the two child average for Americans was “waaaay more problematic” in terms of their contribution to global warming, or climate change, or whatever they are terming it these days.
“Should we have policies that penalize people for having extra kids in the developed world?” Nye asked his guest, according to The Daily Caller.
“I do think we should at least consider it,” admitted Rieder, in keeping with his theory that too many children are a problem, prompting Nye to reply with seeming approval, “Well, ‘at least consider it’ is like, ‘do it.’”
Thankfully their brush with the sort of eugenics and population control advanced by the Nazis and Communist China, among others, did not go unchallenged on the program, as another guest offered up a sort of rebuke to the disgusting suggestion, according to the New York Post.
Dr. Rachel Snow, chief of population development at the United Nations Population Fund, stated, “I would take issue with the idea that we do anything to incentivize fewer children or more children.”
“I think it’s all about … human rights,” she added. “People should have the number of children they want … and if some families have five or six children, God bless them. That’s fine. But most people end up with fewer.”
You can watch a clip of the segment right here:
Akin to China’s horrifying mandated one-child policy, which has since reportedly been renamed “family planning” and adjusted upward to permit two children but is still quite atrocious, Nye was calling for a form of population control — ostensibly in order to better protect the earth, which he apparently loves more than the humanity that resides upon it.
This is simply insane, and the fact that this veritable idiot hasn’t been widely discredited and remains heralded by liberals as a great scientific mind should tell you all you need to know about the modern American left.
Please share this on Facebook and Twitter so everyone can hear the frighteningly moronic thing Bill Nye just suggested.
