Former NFL star Aaron Hernandez, who hung himself with a bed sheet in his prison cell early Wednesday, left behind three suicide notes, with one apparently directed toward his jailhouse lover.
The Daily Mail reported Friday that Hernandez left two notes for his fiancee Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez and their 4-year-old daughter.
The third note Hernandez left was for his male partner in prison.
Now, the discovery of Hernandez’s bisexuality is being used as a possible explanation for the murder of Odin Lloyd in 2013.
The motive was always unclear as to why Hernandez would kill Lloyd, who was described as a friend of Hernandez who happened to be dating his fiancee’s sister at the time.
Meanwhile, Newsweek reported Friday that Ernest Wallace, a co-defendant in the Lloyd murder case, said Lloyd referred to Hernandez a “schmoocher,” which Hernandez interpreted as a gay slur.
According to the Newsweek report, it’s possible Hernandez took Lloyd’s life after learning Lloyd knew of his bisexual background.
Shortly before his arrest for the killing of Lloyd, Hernandez moved money into three separate accounts, two of them being for his fiancee and daughter. The other account, where the most money was moved, allegedly belonged to one of Hernandez’s longtime male lovers.
Wallace, who was convicted of helping Hernandez dispose of the murder weapon, reportedly was heard in a jailhouse conversation as saying he never would have done it had he knew Hernandez was a “limp wrist.”
Other possible factors leading to Lloyd’s death include Hernandez’s history of substance abuse. During the trial, prosecutors made the case that Hernandez was not operating at his full mental faculties because a marijuana joint with his DNA was found near Lloyd’s body.
In the past, Hernandez was widely known to abuse hydroponic marijuana, reportedly smoking the drug daily. Investigators believe on the night of his suicide, Hernandez was smoking K2, a form of synthetic marijuana.
When corrections officers found his body early Wednesday morning, the Bible in his cell was opened to John 3:16, which reads, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whosoever believes in him would not perish but have eternal life.”
Hernandez also scrawled the verse on his forehead with red pen before taking his life.
