“All Are Welcome,” reads the sign, but that does not apply to anyone who dares to have an opinion that differs from the accepted liberal dogma at colleges and universities around the country.
That’s what some members of the Fordham University College Republicans Club learned when they dared to go to a campus coffee shop to get together and talk.
“We were just a couple friends going to get coffee, having a talk,” said student Aaron Spring.
Spring noted the students made the mistake of wearing the trademark red “Make America Great Again” baseball caps that identify the wearers as not only Republicans, but supporters of President Donald Trump.
That was enough for an employee at the coffee house run by students at Fordham, who ordered the college Republicans to leave the premises within five minutes.
As captured in a video, the employee of Rodrigue’s Coffee House on the New York City campus said the red “MAGA” hats violated the college’s “safe space policy.”
The problem is – the college doesn’t have such a policy, but that didn’t stop the coffee house employee from telling the Republican students to get out.
“I don’t want people like you supporting this club. No one here wants people like you supporting our club. I am giving you five minutes. You are wearing hats that completely violate our safe space policy.”
Spring says the coffee house student employee said the Republican students “…represented Nazism and fascism, and all this just made-up liberal propaganda, really.”
Fox News anchor Martha McCallum asked Spring if the Republican students who wore the red “MAGA” hats went to the coffee shop with the intention of provoking a confrontation. “No, of course not.”
In fact, the college has released a statement noting that “…no member of the Fordham community is excluded from any public spaces on the basis of their political views.”
The university said it is currently investigating the expulsion of the college Republicans from the “All Are Welcome” student coffee house.
In the meantime, student Republicans will continue to meet and just find another coffee house where the welcome sign really means “Welcome.”
Should colleges and universities make their facilities open to all students, including Republicans, as a part of inclusivity and the encouragement of free speech?
