Under President Barack Obama the world has become a very unstable place. Proof of this can be found everywhere, from the terrorism sweeping the globe to North Korea successfully detonating a nuclear weapon last Thursday.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney took Obama to task for his disastrous foreign policy in an op-ed he and his daughter, Liz Cheney, wrote for The Wall Street Journal.
In the article, the Cheneys slammed Obama for allowing America’s enemies to grow stronger while simultaneously doing everything in his power to weaken America’s military and its standing in the world.
“President Obama has been more dedicated to reducing America’s power than to defeating our enemies,” they wrote. “He has enhanced the abilities, reach and finances of our adversaries, including the world’s leading state sponsor of terror, at the expense of our allies and our own national security.”
While some Republicans have objected to the Cheney foreign policy as being too war-hawkish, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Cheney and President George W. Bush wanted to keep America safe and were willing to do whatever it took to achieve that goal.
With Obama, no one knows if he even cares about keeping Americans safe. The evidence so far would seem to suggest that all he cares about is securing his legacy and getting the heck out of Dodge.
“President Obama and Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry were so concerned with pleasing Iran’s ruling mullahs that they were willing to overlook the American blood on Iranian hands and decades of Iran’s activities as the world’s leading state sponsor of terror,” the Cheneys stated in the article, which was written to commemorate the 15th anniversary of 9/11.
While we may not need a leader as hawkish as Cheney, we certainly need a new leader who will actually use America’s military effectively and ensure that our military is ready for whatever challenges it may face in this ever-changing world. I think we all know who that potential leader is … and who it isn’t.
