A few weeks ago we reported on an incident that took place at a McDonald’s restaurant in North London. For those individuals not familiar with the details, here’s a quick overview.
A Muslim woman along with a friend entered a McDonald restaurant and was asked by a security guard at the restaurant to remove her hijab, which is the traditional headscarf worn by Muslim woman usually covering the entire head.
The rationale behind the request to remove the headscarf was due to the fact that North London has been the scene of multiple terrorist attacks of late, and under those conditions, the security guard’s action seemed appropriate at the time.
However, the woman refused and that’s when the drama began with her friend suddenly pulling out a cell phone and recording the incident.
The brief video clip captures the Muslim woman exchanging words with the security guard; “Why can’t I come into McDonald’s because I’m wearing a hijab? I’m sorry but can you please say it?”
The woman then goes off on the security guard exclaiming: “I am sorry but I just want to know who is implementing this policy because this is f****** ridiculous.”
McDonald has apologized for the incident stating the franchise “does not have a policy in place which restricts or prevents anyone wearing a hijab, or any other religious dress, from entering’ its restaurants.”
Adding; ‘We welcome customers of all faiths and would like to apologize to the customer as this situation should not have taken place. We are taking this matter extremely seriously and are addressing this with the individuals involved.”
However, an apology might not be enough. Simply listen to the woman’s remarks regarding the incident; “I have been living in the UK for 19 years now and this is the first time I’m faced with this kind of discrimination and I am shocked. I am actually shocked.”
She continues; “I thought: “It’s finally happening to me,’ like it has to so many hijabis. It didn’t feel real because I had seen so many videos like this and it was finally happening to me in real life. I was in so much disbelief.”
Can someone say “lawsuit’!
Do you think this Muslim woman will sue McDonald’s for discrimination?
