Former U.S. Navy SEAL Rob O’Neill charged on Tuesday that Khirz Khan is “part of the Clinton machine” and pointed to the timing of the Muslim man’s address to the Democratic National Convention as proof.
Appearing on Fox Business Network’s Lou Dobbs Tonight, O’Neill, who killed Osama Bin Laden, said Khan’s appearance at the DNC was “unfortunate,” adding he shouldn’t be politicizing his son’s death in the Iraq War in 2004.
“And there was no mistake that he [Khan] came out for the Clintons,” said O’Neill. “He’s worked for the Clintons before and there’s been three presidential elections since his son was killed. And he could have come out for — this is one he decides to come out for. This is part of the Clinton machine.”
O’Neill continued, “There’s no mistake that Mr. Trump was interviewed by George Stephanopoulos. He’s in the Clinton camp as well and this is how Clinton politics work — as opposed to going on Hillary’s record, we’re just going to go on how bad you are.”
Stephanopoulos interviewed Trump on ABC News’ This Week on Sunday and asked him to comment on Khan’s claim that the Republican candidate had “sacrificed nothing” for his country. The news anchor was once a senior aide to President Bill Clinton.
Trump appeared to try to give Khan the benefit of the doubt regarding the tone of his remarks saying the man was clearly emotional and “looked like a nice guy.”
Rather than attacking Trump, O’Neill asserted, “Mr. Khan should be saying what can we do to defeat this [radical Islam]. He is a Muslim, Pakistani born, and all the work that he’s done in Saudi Arabia especially with bringing in migrants. We should be using people like Mr. Khan to how are we going to defeat radical Islam rather than yelling at each other back and forth.”
O’Neill believes the Khans did not honor their son’s sacrifice by their actions at the DNC. “If I had been in his situation and saw people politicizing my sacrifice and what I’d done, I’d be a little bit disappointed, because that’s not what it’s all about. He died a hero,” he said.
As reported by Western Journalism, Chris Mark, who served in a Marine Corps elite Force Reconnaissance unit, agreed with O’Neill. He wrote in an “Open Letter To Khizr Khan“ over the weekend: “I am troubled that you would allow a party that has little more than contempt for the US Service Member to parade you into the DNC to denounce Donald Trump.”
“As you continue to make the media circuit and bask in the glow of affection cast upon you by a party that has little regard for your son’s own sacrifice, and veterans in general, I would ask you to consider your comments and your position more closely,” he added.
