Next Time Someone Says "Nobody Wants to Take Your Guns," Show Them These 4 Pics

Every time the gun control debate heats up there are a multitude of Second Amendment supporters who make it clear in unmistakable terms that they have absolutely zero intention of willingly allowing themselves to be disarmed.

Without fail, that constant reminder from gun owners is met dismissively by some on the left who condescendingly declare, “Nobody wants to take your guns.”

But while those individuals proceed to talk about “common sense gun law reform” and seek to reassure gun owners that they have nothing to fear, their message is betrayed by other gun grabbers who, for one reason or another, feel compelled to reveal the true end goal of the anti-gun crowd.

That betrayal of the left’s duplicity was recently summed up in a tweet by former Secret Service agent and conservative pundit Dan Bongino, who shared a collage of recent article headlines calling for the repeal of the constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.

Indeed, The New York Times‘ in-house “conservative” Bret Stephens argued in October, 2017 after the Las Vegas shooting that gun control advocate proposals did little more than “tinker at the margins” of the legal regime surrounding the natural right to bear arms for defense of self and country.

In order to “fundamentally and permanently” address the problem of gun violence, the Second Amendment needed to be repealed, not so gun ownership could be banned outright, but so that gun ownership would no longer enjoy the “blanket Constitutional protection” that prevents so-called meaningful reform efforts.

Next in the collage was an article by NPR following the Parkland, Florida school shooting, which noted the heated debate over the Second Amendment and acknowledged that the Supreme Court’s Heller decision recognized that the treasured amendment protected the right of individuals to own firearms, handguns in that specific case, but also semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15 if the same logic used was extended.

It was then noted that because of that holding by the court and how it supported the Second Amendment, there could be no meaningful gun control imposed unless the amendment itself were repealed, rendering the ruling a moot point. The rest of the article seemed to lament the great difficulty in garnering the necessary support of 2/3 of each house of Congress and 3/4 of the states to pass and ratify — or similarly repeal — a constitutional amendment.

Do you support the Second Amendment?

Then we have Kurt Eichenwald in Vanity Fair in 2013 after the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre, who in his typical condescendingly snarky manner argued against the grammar of the Second Amendment and presumed to be more knowledgeable of the true meaning of the parsed words than the late Justice Antonin Scalia in his Heller ruling.

Thus, he proposed a repeal of the “incomprehensible mess” that is the Second Amendment and a rewrite of it to include a right of the people to keep and bear arms, albeit under “reasonable restrictions” imposed by the government, such as mandatory liability insurance for all gun owners.

Finally we have “Constitutional law professor” David Cohen in Rolling Stone in 2016 who asserted that as much as he revered the Founding Fathers, they got it wrong with the Second Amendment — along with many other aspects of the Constitution — which must be repealed.

His argument essentially boiled down to the Second Amendment being outdated — the Founders couldn’t have envisioned the murderous capabilities of modern weaponry — it is a threat to the liberty of peace-loving, non-gun-owning people, and is a “suicide pact” in that allowing good people to be armed to counter bad people with arms will inevitably lead to shootouts in which innocents are killed.

All of those arguments and more are routinely made by the same sort of people who also repeatedly reassure us, “But nobody is coming for your guns.”

However, we have heard this double-speak far too many times to accept their reassurances at face value, as the cat is out of the bag in regard to their true intentions — a repeal of the Second Amendment so that the government and our liberal betters can severely restrict gun ownership and leave us at the mercy of criminals and a still-armed government — who we are told will protect us even as we know they cannot.

Liberals lie when they say “Nobody wants to take your guns,” and every Second Amendment-supporting gun owner must remain ever vigilant to ensure their natural right to defend themselves with arms is never infringed upon.
