It’s always interesting how society reacts to those few privileged elites who decide what’s “in” and what’s “out.” Take for example Hollywood, that small little piece of real estate better known as “tinsel-town” (and for good reason), attempting to influence America’s virtues by the films they produce, or perhaps those elected officials in Washington attempting to socially engineer society through legislation, and then of course the mainstream media pounding out their particular brand of news usually based on anonymous sources, innuendo and rumor, all designed to influence the masses.
On Monday one of those privileged entities tucked away on the Avenue of the Americas in the heart of New York City revealed their list of candidates for “Person of the Year.”
That privileged entity is of course Time Magazine and President Trump is once again one of the leading candidates for that prestigious honor, which he won last year being named Time Person of the Year in 2016.
The “honor” of course comes with a warning label in that some of the more noteworthy and no doubt controversial individuals have included; Joseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev and Vladimir Putin who won the “honor” in 2007.
This year’s list of patriots and thugs is a patchwork of where we are as a civilization the list includes; former quarterback Colin Kaepernick, President Xi Jinping of China, Kim Jong Un of North Korea, Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman of Saudi Arabia.
Moreover making the unconventional list are the Dreamers and the #metoo movement including Wonder Woman Director Patty Jenkins. However perhaps the most glaring name that wasn’t on the list was that of “Hillary Clinton.”
The list was unveiled in no particular order, kicking off with Amazon’s chief owner Bezos, who has expanded his companies reach all over the world, making him perhaps the richest man in the world, with a net worth of over 100 million dollars.
However if the president should win the “honor” he would become only one of 12 individuals who have won that distinction twice, the other is President Franklin D. Roosevelt who won the title three times.
Do you believe it’s actually an honor to win Person of the Year, or just more elitist hype?
