When Ronald Reagan delivered his first Christmas address to the nation in 1981, millions of Americans loved it.
For President Reagan, the true meaning of Christmas was celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Reagan’s eloquent message was the mark of a true leader, one who was not beholden to political correctness like our sitting president often is.
While Obama might be content to say “happy holidays” and barely pay lip service to the Christmas season at all, Reagan felt the wonder of Christmas that we all share. He realized what Christmas is supposed to be and what it’s not supposed to be.
Reagan made a clear delineation between how Americans of other faiths or no faith viewed the holiday and how Christians, such as himself, viewed it. He made his address to all Americans, but he wasn’t afraid to profess his faith and talk about Jesus.
Nowadays, there are even liberal theologians who are attempting to tell us that the Christmas story is just a great Hebrew myth. They tell us to put that book away and celebrate Christmas simply as a yearly reunion of family.
For others still, the Christmas season is all about making money. These are the retailers in our midst who have come to depend on this season for the financial windfall it brings that helps them put their books back into the black. It’s one thing to be pleased with economic success, but it’s another to worship money.
However, Ronald Reagan always had a way to steer us in the right direction. That is what great leaders do. Through their eloquence, they show us that the American traditions we all hold dear are still the ones to be treasured.
Unfortunately, many of us believe that Barack Obama has not done that. Obama’s “god” is not the Christ-child with his humble birth but the liberal ideology instead.
We need a leader who will uphold the original principles of the Christmas season. Folks, we need another leader like Ronald Reagan, and we are all keeping our fingers crossed that Donald Trump will be this leader. We know the man is not perfect, but he has already started to change this country for the better.
Remember what the “Reason for the Season” is today, and please be aware that God still has his hand on our nation. He allowed Reagan to be elected at a pivotal moment in our nation’s history, and this first address was a great sign of things to come.
